User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars tough little entry-level package
This is the fourth paintball marker that I have owned since the mid 1990s and you get tough and reliable system for a reasonably low price. The marker with the manufacturer’s barrel and the stock runs around $80-$100 and you can play with it right out of the box (given that you have a mask, air tank, hopper, and balls of course).

The marker is rugged and easy to clean. It will take the abuse of woodsball play. The very first time that I had in the the woods was a rainy day that the temperature never rose above 45 F. The maker held up without any real issues. I will be using this one for a while.

I did say it had an entry-level price, but if you are anything like me, you will want to tinker with your marker and make it personal. I will discuss some additional hardware that I recommend. Basically, do whatever makes you happy.

Sights:

The MR-1 has fixed, metal sights, but you can’t use them for two reasons. 1: the top-cocking bolt blocks the sights. 2: you cannot aim down the barrel with a mask on when you have the factory stock in place.

I have seen people ‘chop’ the stock, but I was willing to spend about $10-$15 to purchase the spyder tactical rail. It raises the line of sight by about two inches. You could also just play without the stock.

Barrel:

The factory barrel is not bad, but it is a bit unimpressive. You can shoot all day with the included barrel and not have any real issues. I however like the mil-sim games and love the intimidation factor that comes with some scary looking add-ons. You can find a lot of barrel choices, and basically spend as much as you want. I first purchased a 16 inch nyte stick barrel by 32 degrees. I have a few others waiting to be tested.

Air:

I use CO2. My MR-1 may pull about 2200 shots from a 20 oz tank. That number is an estimate. The CO2 use will change depending on temperature. If you are using the factory setup, then the stock helps to balance the weight of a tank under the trigger. It is a lot lighter if you run a remote line. The remote will cost you $30-$45 and then you have to purchase gear to hold the tank.

Ammunition:

You get what you pay for. If you buy the cheapest balls on the market, then don’t complain when they are hooking all over the field and every fifth ball breaks in the chamber.

The bottom line:

This is an inexpensive and easily maintained marker. It doesn’t matter how much you spend, or what your marker looks like. Just get outside and have some fun with your friends.
